Outed on the Internet

So, today it happened. The world now knows my dirty secret. About my second life.

In one life, I am Stuart Etter, writer of respectable stories currently only available to those who can see my computer. I have a Social Security number. I pay my taxes. And I help my wife carry out the garbage.

The other life is on the Internet, where I go by the forum alias Myrddin, and am guilty of writing virtually every crazy idea or theory that pops into my head. Or to be more accurate, guilty of writing every crazy joke, lame pun, or play on words that pop into my head. Usually on asoiaf.westeros.org, but pretty much anywhere I see a humorous opening.

Looks like one of my jokes hit very close to home, as revealed last night on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Don’t believe me?

Somehow, I woke up this morning to find people on Twitter, Reddit, and even news sites linking to a post I made back in 2008 where I guessed the words hiding within Hodor’s name. On Reddit, there is speculation that "Myrddin" is George RR Martin, Nostradamus, or a Game of Thrones writer trolling the Internet.

What? Hold the phone! I mean door!

Nope. Just a guy who made a joke about how repetition can drive you insane (which is no way connected to being a parent…)

Now, if you’ll excuse me. I’m getting close to unraveling the hidden meaning and secrets of life within the curious phrase “I Am Groot”....

While reading The Fellowship of the Ring at the age of twelve, Stuart A. Etter was told by his teacher that he should be reading shorter books. Undaunted, he finished the trilogy and promptly moved on to other novels ranging from fantasy/sci-fi to historical fiction to horror to thrillers.

Prologue: Prisoner Bound

Damion rubbed the dull ache of age from his hands. Countless years wielding a sword had conditioned his tendons and muscles, but time had worn them down, replacing strength with chronic pain. Closing his eyes, Damion dreamed of his youth. Battle and victory marked most of his memories, but darker images tainted his successes, reminding him of his one...
